Uglich was founded in 1148. It is now considered one of the 9 cities that make up the Golden Ring along with Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal, Vladimir, Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky and Rostov Veliky.
