Horse milk is a precious commodity in Kyrgyzstan. We visited a horse milking farm and watched the process of milking. Mares are milked during the day while the foals are kept from their moms. During the evening and night the mares and foals are untied and the foals are free to nurse as they wish.
Horse milk is sold at roadside stands and at farms and is touted as having numerous health benefits.
The teen aged girls on this farm dressed in traditional dress, posed, and rode their horses to entertain us.
This woman was cooking at an outdoor grill at the horse farm and was delighted to see us.
Not far from the horse milking farm, we saw this man selling horse milk.
