Kampala slum is disturbing but hopeful. Look at these images carefully; then look at them again. Yes, there is extreme poverty and a very low standard of living in light of the homes, the streets, the way people wash clothes, the clothing, etc. But, now look at the faces of the people, including the kids. They are smiling and playful. They seem happy.

As we (a group of 7 travelers/photographers) strolled through the area, we accumulated more and more children following us and asking to be photographed. They were delighted to see their image on the LCD screens of our cameras.

Many began to “pose” for us.
