José Fuster moved to a poor neighborhood outside of Havana in the 1950s. He began to decorate his home and surroundings with his primitive style mosaic decorations. He then approached neighbors and asked if they would like this sort of decoration in and around their homes. They were receptive. Hence, this poor neighborhood became a major art community and tourist attraction.

This is the son of  José Fuster who proudly wears his dad’s art on his arms and tends the shop where Fuster inspired art objects are displayed and sold.

Fusterland is about a 30 minute ride from the center of Old Havana. Many tourists hire old ’50s convertible cars along with their drivers to visit Fusterland.

Fuster’s neighbors have enjoyed having their residences decorated with mosaics.

Many art shops can be found in the small Fuster community.
