There is a small village in central Java, an island in Indonesia, that is famous for its ancient craft of umbrella making. They have been doing this since the 12th century. Here are lots of images. I could not figure out which ones to not post so there are many.

Look carefully and in some you will see the artist who is painting the individual designs on the umbrella. And, BTW, the one souvenir I brought home from Indonesia is a handmade umbrella – one selected from the display here.
